Oh vacuum cleaner how you vex me

Ever have those moments with your vacuum cleaner that send you into a fit of frustration or (yeah, I'll just say it) a tantrum?
I do my best to keep the machine well maintained, even though it has all these new fangled (geezer speak?) filters and stuff, but obviously I dropped the ball today.
I spent a good 40 minutes doing a thorough vacuuming job this afternoon.  Then I went to go empty the cup before checking on the main filter.  I wanted to throw myself onto the floor and wail.  The cup was empty.  Empty?!  How could this be?  You mean I spent that time being so careful to go over the high traffic areas slowly and repeatedly for nothing?
Turns out that there was some kind of obstruction in the area of the main filter--I'm glad it was the first thing I checked.
So, thankfully, it wasn't a totally wasted vacuuming job, just partially wasted.
Thanks for listening.
I feel better all ready.

If it makes you feel any better, I once took a motor out of a vacuum to try to figure out what was wrong with it. My pursuit of the clog led to the machine becoming inoperable. I started to really take it apart after that and discovered the hose was completely blocked. If I had checked there first, it would have been easy to fix. We ended up buying a new one.

Thank you, that does make me feel a bit better to know I'm not all alone. I think we've been through more vacuum cleaners than anything else since we've been married. Mostly due to broken parts that cost too much to replace.
We were so close to buying a Dyson this last time, until someone at work said that they heard they don't last long. Seriously??

We are pretty good about vacuums. I go through every once in awhile and scour them so they look like new. The one that broke we had for maybe 8 years?

Eight years??
Well, now that I think about it, I guess our first one lasted quite awhile. We used the $ we received as wedding gifts to buy a Stark in Portland. Used to be a Portland icon. Not sure if it's the same now.

You sound like a handy guy to have around!

We have a a Dyson and love it. It's super quiet and is a work horse. We've had it 6 or 7 years and even with a herd of animals, it keeps trucking. We've taken it in for a "check up" once but that's it.

Thanks, Amber! Good to hear something positive about Dyson. Especially from a fellow pet owner!
